Sprint announcedtoday that the Palm Pre will hit store shelves on June 6 for $199, after a $100 rebate.  So consumers will really have to shell out $299, and then wait faithfully for their $100 rebate to come in the mail.  Rebates suck, but apparently Palm really had to do whatever it could to make the Pre competitive.  It won’t have an easy time, though.  The Pre is gonna be released a mere 2 days before Apple’s WWDC, an event that might see the introduction of new iPhone models.

My prediction: The Pre will sell well enough to keep Palm afloat, but will by no means be a blockbuster.  As someone previously alluded to over at the Motley Fool, the iPhone was bigger than AT&T.  Unfortunately for Palm, you can’t say the same thing about the Pre vis a vis Sprint.
