On Friday morning, folks walking past the upcoming Apple Store in Hamburg, Germany were greeted with some Banksy inspired nerd vandalism on the side of one of the building’s construction barricades. You see, plastered on the side of the Apple Store to-be was a bright and colorful Windows logo.
Quick to respond, here are workers cleaning up the “graffiti” early on Friday morning. The Apple Store in question is scheduled to open for business this Summer, and much like its Munich counterpart, will be a two-story structure with large glass panels (or dare we say, windows) on the exterior.
Though this was clearly the work of some enterprising pranksters, it’s not all that uncommon to see official Windows branding so close to Apple retail stores. Not only have the folks in Redmond made a habit of placing new Microsoft stores in the vicinity of existing Apple retail stores, but they even went so far as to construct Microsoft-branded “I’m a PC” kiosks outside of a few US and UK-based Apple Stores where folks could create their own “I’m a PC” video.
Update: Here’s video of how the Windows emblem was put up. I tell ya, the things you can accomplish while wearing construction gear. Michael Westin would be proud!

Ccazz:
So when does the over priced crap get some malware their tech support won’t help them with?
June 4th, 2011 at 9:58 pm
Just some kids having some harmless fun!
Really …
June 4th, 2011 at 9:59 pm
A nerd would have painted a Tux Penguin, or a Beastie the BSD Daemon.
June 4th, 2011 at 10:13 pm
Crooked, and the colours are in the wrong order. On purpose, or by accident?
June 4th, 2011 at 10:22 pm
I am unable to express how little I care about this.
June 4th, 2011 at 10:29 pm
ILLUMINATI!
June 4th, 2011 at 10:46 pm
No hardhats or safety shoes? These guys would be spotted out in any North American city in about 2 minutes.
June 4th, 2011 at 10:58 pm
Epic and awesome.
June 4th, 2011 at 11:08 pm
If they really wanted to be Pro-Microsoft, they should have painted an Apple symbol over the logo at a Microsoft store. Might help them get some customers…
June 4th, 2011 at 11:43 pm
Re: Ccazz “So when dopesnthe whole thing crash”
Apparently around the same time your spell check kicks in.
June 5th, 2011 at 12:40 am
Apathetic cares so little he wen out of his way to express it.
I agree w/ Bob nerds hate windows almost as much as they hate apple, Linux ftw!
June 5th, 2011 at 3:52 am
The girl who took the photo near the end of the video has a nice ass.
June 5th, 2011 at 5:51 am
Putting the linux penguin up is about stupid… that is all apple is..
June 5th, 2011 at 8:59 am
Hey, that was hilarious!
June 5th, 2011 at 11:15 am
Those were not vandals those were MS employees. I guess this is what counts for funny in redmond.
June 5th, 2011 at 11:50 am
LOL very subtle yet awesome. Touche Windows graffiti artists π
June 5th, 2011 at 11:51 am
maybe they switched the green and blue colors on purpose so that it wouldn’t get led back to a MS employee
June 5th, 2011 at 2:32 pm
It’s Germany. The drive on the opposite sides of the road so the green and blue has to be flipped.
June 5th, 2011 at 2:39 pm
It is funny what you can do in broad daylight!
June 5th, 2011 at 3:09 pm
Vandals??? Oh please. It was a practical joke. I’d expect more sense of humour from Apple folks …
June 5th, 2011 at 4:01 pm
β¦ a practical joke, Katy, that points in the right direction, as most of the functions inside a product with a windows logo on it was developed by apple first.
June 5th, 2011 at 4:16 pm
Those WERE MS employees, duh. They thought that was the new Windows Store (thank you WP7 GPS!)
June 5th, 2011 at 4:16 pm
OH, I am LMAO on this one, I give credit to the Vandals, hahaahaha to apple.
June 5th, 2011 at 6:24 pm
Wait…. there are Microsoft stores??
June 5th, 2011 at 7:16 pm
@Rudee yes Apple invented everything…well of course by ‘invented’ i mean ‘copied from groups like Xerox’.
June 5th, 2011 at 11:58 pm
@Apathetic
You cared enough to reply.
June 6th, 2011 at 1:08 am
Ironic. Thats exactly whay MS tries since years – to copy perfection, but in the end its just another piece of junk. But as long stupid people exist, MS will survive.
June 6th, 2011 at 1:41 am
Should’ve put Beastie up, since that’s what Apple’s OS basically is – a logo of an apple pasted on a box containing apparently random bloat built around a BSD kernel.
June 6th, 2011 at 5:21 am
This was actually a stunt by Apple!
June 6th, 2011 at 6:14 am
Love it. Absolutely classic.
June 6th, 2011 at 6:56 am
Completely agree with joe +1 π
putting beastie up would make sense, I’m still looking for the signification of this act, but still, that’s funny π
Banksy wouldn’t have made a mistake on the colors !
June 6th, 2011 at 9:20 am
The idiots that put up the Windows logo got the logo all wrong.
First of all, the colors are in the wrong order. They should be (going clockwise from top left corner) red-green-yellow-blue.
This also means that they got the white “glow” in the wrong corners of the green and blue squares.
Next, they got the angle wrong. The logo should be tilted down to the right with the left and right sides at an angle, but they have it tilted the wrong way with the sides vertical.
What a bunch of morons. They can’t even do their own “beloved” Windows logo correctly. π
June 6th, 2011 at 1:34 pm
Joe: My hero for the day! ++++
June 6th, 2011 at 3:57 pm
I think it’s just a viral advertisement. Nobody would have cared otherwise about this store opening.
June 8th, 2011 at 10:38 am
just because they drive on the left side of the road in the UK doesn’t mean that all european countries drive on the left side.
July 2nd, 2011 at 2:28 am
This was done by Apple employees. This is great free advertising for their store as even Microsoft is talking about it. I didn’t even know about this store until I say this video.
