MICGadget today posted this blurry spyshot of Apple COO Tim Cook at China Mobile headquarters earlier this morning. Cook was reportedly traveling with 7-8 other people and, the report relays, seemed happy. The original report stems from the First Financial Daily, a “prosperous financial paper” in the country.
The reporter for the First Financial Daily who snapped the photo posted this to her Sina microblog this evening:
This morning, around 10, Apple COO Tim Cook is spotted in the lobby of China Mobile’s HQ, accompanied by 7-8 people. Probably Cook is talking with executives from China Mobile to discuss bilateral cooperation for the iPhone.
With well over 600 million subscribers, China Mobile is the largest mobile carrier in the world. The only glitch with Apple hitching their wagon to China Mobile is that they use a proprietary TD-SCDMA network and Apple has not been willing to modify its hardware to run on that network.
While we obviously aren’t privy to what Apple and China Mobile are up to, the fact that Cook himself traveled to China to handle matters highlights the seriousness of the high-level talks going on.
