Edible Apple

Apple’s Data Center in NC is a behemoth, measures in at 500,00 square feet, and is one of the largest data centers anywhere on earth. But there’s more to this baby than mere size as Apple has plans to invest more than one billion dollars into the data center, a dollar amount which surpasses the typical $500 million investment typically put forth for similar data centers from the likes of Google and Microsoft.

While it’s still not clear what Apple is planning to use the data center for, most believe that it will have a little something to do with cloud computing. And now All Things D is reporting, citing unnamed sources, that Apple may very well double the size of its data center, though it remains unclear what exactly this means.

With its 500,000 square feet of data center space (currently, sources tell me that Apple is considering doubling that) that facility has been built for something. And what better use to put it to than the cloud services that might completely eliminate the need for high capacity hard drives and give the Air storage to match its performance characteristics.
