Remember this 22 year old South Korean amateur singer/iPhone enthusiast who made waves singing Lady Gaga’s Poker Face using only a collection of iPhone apps?
The cute singer with the impressive voice is named Kim Yeo-hee, and the youngster soon found herself a web celebrity thanks to the popularity of the above video (which generated over 2 million views) along with her first effort, a musical iPhone version of Beyonce’s hit song Irreplaceable
And now, it appears that Yeo-hee has been able to parlay her viral success on YouTube into an actual record deal with Seoul-based producer Dreamhigh-Ent. She’s already begun recording her own songs, and is hard at work on her debut album along with an accompanying music video for her first single Hajima (Don’t Fall in Love), which is slated for release later this month.
Don’t get it twisted, though. Yeo-hee is not some fly by night iPhone charlatan. She’s been writing songs for over 6 years now and studied music at a small college in South Korea. Still, her iPhone buoyed success certainly caught her off guard.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Yeo-hee explains:
Since I bought my iPhone, I kept playing with it and experimenting with different apps and got totally hooked… I wanted to show people I can do playing and singing at the same time. These days you should sell yourself. I wanted people to watch and evaluate my performances.
