Online video provider Brightcove recently announced that they will officially support HTML 5 video across their lineup of websites which includes heavy hitters like the New York Times, A&E, Showtime, Sony Music, and Time, Inc. The announcement comes days after CBS reportedly began testing HTML 5 video on it website in anticipation of the upcoming iPad launch.

Our customers want to be able to deliver their video content to every screen without sacrificing the quality, interactivity and monetization capabilities they have come to expect from the Brightcove platform,” said Jeremy Allaire, Brightcove chairman and chief executive officer. “The Brightcove Experience for HTML5 fills the gap between the current playback capabilities of the emerging standard and what our customers need to operate successful online video businesses.”

The iPad has been the target of some criticism for not supporting Flash playback, with some openly wondering if the device is worth picking up given that it’s web browsing experience will be noticeably limited. But if Brightcove’s announcement is any indication, getting video content up and running on the iPad won’t be a problem at all.
