Over the weekend we highlighted a new iPhone 5 case which suggested that the next-gen iPhone would sport a flash module completely separate from the camera. Now comes more subsantial information via Apple.pro which posted photos comparing the front facing and rear facing cameras across the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 5.
As you can see below, the rear camera on the iPhone 5 doesn’t come with an attached flash component as it does on the iPhone 4. This lends further credence to the case images we posted to this weekend. As to why Apple would choose to move the flash component to the other side of the camera, photography folks have relayed that doing so helps reduce redeye and makes for sharper photographs in less than ideal shooting conditions.
Apple.Pro also threw together a photoshop mockup of what it believes the iPhone 5 will look like. Also note that both the front and rear facing cameras appear to be wholly redesigned, though specific technical details aren’t yet known. Again, it’s been rumored that the next-gen iPhone will come with an 8 megapixel camera. Lastly, Apple.Pro has a unusually successful track record regarding Apple rumors, so we’re not taking this report with a grain of salt.
