At a Microsoft shareholder meeting earlier today, Microsoft CEO said that copies of Windows 7 are flying off the shelves. “We’ve already sold twice as many units as any OS in a comparable time frame,” Ballmer said. “Windows 7 is simply the best PC operating system that we or anyone else has ever built.”
Well, I don’t know about that, but Windows 7 does seem to be a success both critically and commercially. But to put things into context, a huge percentage of Windows XP users skipped the Vista upgrade cycle entirely, and with their PC’s now running antiquated software that dates back all the way to 2001, now is as good a time as any for those users to upgrade.
During the shareholder meeting, one brazen young fellow got up and asked Ballmer about Microsoft’s struggles to attract young consumers to the brand. “You’ve got a real bad image out there,” he said, “you sure don’t have that younger generation.”
Ballmer responded, “We all watch television… 96 times out of 100, worldwide, people choose a PC with Windows.”
