Citing a reliable Apple source, Boy Genius Report earlier today dropped a number of interesting tidbits about the forthcoming Apple tablet. The source claims that the multi-touch gestures are “out of control”, that the device will be powered by an incredibly fast ARM CPU, and that the tablet will run on the iPhone kernel. Notably, BGR writes that Apple hasn’t updated the iPhone OS in quite a while precisely because the latest build contains a good deal of references/code to the tablet, something which Apple obviously didn’t want leak out.
Lastly, BGR’s source writes that the tablet is basically an “iPhone on steroids.” Wow, we can already envision Mark McGwire waiting in line at the Apple Store. Also of note is a report from a few weeks ago where a former Apple engineer stated that users would be “very surprised” as to how they interact wtih the tablet.
Apple, of course, will be holding a media event on January 27th at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco where Steve Jobs will presumably take the wraps off a tablet device that has been in development for many years.
