Last week we reported that Microsoft was going to go back to its roots and when it announced that it would copy Apple and open up its own Microsoft branded retail stores and place them right next to Apple Stores. Now, it turns out that Microsoft is getting a little extra inside info about how to best go about setting things up.
According to ifoAppleStore, former VP of Apple retail, George Blankenship, has recently been hired by Microsoft to help it roll out its retail stores across the country sometime this fall.
Blankenship joined Apple in 2000, and his 20 years of experience as Gap Inc.’s vice president of real estate strategy helped fulfill the original concept developed by Apple Sr. V-P Retail Ron Johnson–position the stores at upscale, high-traffic locations to attract customers. As first reported by TechFlash, Microsoft has hired Blankenship to provide consulting services for its retail team, although the company refuses to say exactly what work he is performing.
ifoAppleStore has a lot more on the story over here.
