Edible Apple

Apple is planning on opening up a second retail store in downtown Chicago, and this time it has its sights set on the trendy Lincoln Park neighborhood. Apple originally had planned to open up a store on the commerce heavy State St., but for whatever reason, those plans never materialized.

Instead, ifoAppleStore is reporting that Apple has recently signed a lease for land located at 1560 N. Halstead Street, putting it right in the middle of Lincoln Park, a somewhat upscale neighborhood known for being a haven for young professionals. Chicago Business is reporting that Apple will soon be constructing a 15,000 square foot store in the area at a lease rate of $700,000 a year. That sure is a lot of shuffles.

The new Apple Store will be located across the street from a Borders and a CB2, and though somewhat atypical of the larger Lincoln Park area, stores in this particular area generally have large parking lots which make them an attractive destination spot for shoppers who ordinarily find parking to be a pain in the city. Apple certainly does its homework when it comes to picking locations for its retail stores. Again, this will be Apple’s second retail store downtown, with their flagship Chicago store located on the heavily foot trafficked Michigan Ave.
