The low-cost and Australian based Jetstar Airways will soon give customers flying dometically the option to rent iPads for in-flight use for only $10 (or $8.40 in US dollars). As you might expect, the devices will come pre-loaded with movies, music, reading material, and of course, games.
The iPad initiative is set to begin towards the end of June and will last for about 2 weeks as part of a trial run. If successful, Jetstar CEO Bruce Buchanan said that they would look to roll out the devices across their “entire domestic and international network later in the year.”
The iPads are being trialled in conjunction with Bluebox Avionics and Stella Inflight. Bluebox is understood to have developed customised apps for the iPad, while Stella is a provider of movie and TV content for airlines worldwide.
