Still riding high on the success of Angry Birds, and its many successful permutations and merchandising activities, Rovio is now partnering up with NASA to deliver what promises to be an interest addition to the Angry Birds franchise – Angry Birds Space.
Our focus is to delight our fans and we’re excited to launch Angry Birds Space on multiple platforms,” Rovio general manager Andrew Stalbow said in an email statement to Kotaku. “In the build up to launch, we’re going to make a global online announcement on Thursday March 8th at 10 AM New York time on angrybirds.com/space, and we hope our fans from around the world will tune in for what will be an out-of-this-world experience.”
Check out a trailer for the upcoming title below. Note how it incorporates official NASA footage, but alas, there’s no footage of actual gameplay!
Guess we’ll have to wait a few weeks.
Previously, we highlighted how Rovio CEO Peter Vesterbacka had thanked Apple for the success of Angry Birds.
“We really have Apple to thank, not just for helping to promote Angry Birds, but for creating the App Store to begin with. We got away from this carrier-dominated Soviet model. Other people decided on our behalf what was a good game and what was a bad game.”
“[Under the old system] I would have had to go to carrier and say, ‘We have this game where you have to slingshot birds at these green pigs.’” Vesterbacka continued. “They’d say ‘It’s not a poker game, we’re not interested.’”
