In April 2009, a Taiwan-based company called Elan Microelectronics sued Apple alleging that the iPhone, iPod Touch, and MacBook all made use of touchscreen technology that infringed upon their patents. The lawsuit was the culmination of a failed licensing negotiation that first started in 2007.
Now, more than two years later, Apple and Elan Microelectronics have reached a settlement deal wherein Apple will pay Elan $5 million in damages. Further, Reuters notes that the two companies also agreed to a cross-licensing agreement for certain patents.
