Though still relegated as a “hobby”, the Apple TV keeps on truckin. According to a recent report from Strategy Analytics, the Apple TV is leading the way in the connected TV player market. The report claims that sales of connected TV set top boxes is poised to double in 2012 and that Apple is on target to sell upwards of 4 million units next year, garnering a 33% share in the process.
“As Apple prepares for its expected launch of smart TVs in 2012,” the report notes, “rival platforms must accelerate their development plans to keep Apple from running away with the connected TV business, as it has done in smartphones and digital music.”
