After releasing the second beta of iOS 5.0.1 to developers last week, Apple yesterday began seeding iOS 5.0.1 to select users who have been complaining of terribly poor battery life. The users selected were referred for participation via their complaints to AppleCare. As you recall, some iPhone 4S users have seen their battery life drain extensively even while their device remains in standby mode.

Apple last week finally acknowledged that some users were experiencing poor battery life performance with the iPhone 4S.

In a statement released to select media outlets, Apple explained:

A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices. We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks.

What’s more, Apple Stores have received internal memos detailing how they should respond to users who come in with battery performance issues.
