The outpouring of emotion, memories, and tributes to Steve Jobs is immense. We’re still sorting through it but thought this tweet from Twitter CEO Dick Costolo nails it.
“Once in a rare while, somebody comes along who doesn’t just raise the bar, they create an entirely new standard of measurement.”
When Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone, he promised a leapfrog experience that was at least 5 years ahead of the competition. Without a doubt, the iPhone delivered just that. And much like Costolo says, it didn’t just raise the bar, it fundamentally changed the very notion of what we all thought a phone should be.
But the iPhone wasn’t the only time Steve Jobs and Apple set a completely new standard of measurement. From the Macintosh which heralded the mainstream adoption of the GUI and the mouse to the iPod which completely turned the music industry on its head, Jobs’ tenure at Apple is marked by innovative products whose influence is entirely immeasurable.
