Sprint employees may not be allowed to talk about it, but it’s largely believed that the nation’s third largest carrier will be getting both the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 5 in early October. Over the past few years, Sprint has tried to counteract its iPhone deficiency with other smartphones like the Palm Pre which, but as we’ve seen, they’ve done little to keep customers away from AT&T and now Verizon.
During Sprint’s most recent quarter, the company lost $847 million, largely a result of the company’s inability to keep customers from defecting. The impending arrival of the iPhone will likely help the company reverse course and perhaps get back on the road to profitability.
Of course, Apple rumors, by their very nature, aren’t reliable and we usually have to piece together disparate pieces of information to really discern whether a particular rumor has some meat to it.
That said, reports that Sprint will be getting the iPhone in early October received a boost yesterday following reports that the company sent out press invitations for a “Strategy Update” presentation scheduled for October 7. Coincidentally, or perhaps not, it’s been reported by at least 2 independant sources that Apple’s iPhone 5 will be available for pre-order on September 30 and will hit stores on October 7.
Sprint’s ‘strategy update’ will feature a handful of Sprint’s top executives followed by a Q&A session with the press. While the exact purpose of the presentation remains unknown, some are speculating that it relates to Sprint’s plans regarding 4G networks.
Regardless, by the time October 7 rolls around, Apple’s future iPhone plans should be well known.
