A recent report allegedly sourced from someone within Apple claims that the iPhone 5 will launch in New Zealand on October 9th. Admittedly, I’m not terribly interested in the iPhone launch date in New Zealand (though I’d love to go visit sometime), but this is worth noting because it aligns well with previous rumors regarding the iPhone launch date.
A few weeks ago, a number of sources reported independently that iPhone 5 pre-orders will commence on September 30 and that Apple’s next-gen iPhone will go on sale on or around October 7. Furthermore, we recently reported that Sprint is holding a special press event on October 7, lending credence to reports that the carrier will be receiving the iPhone sometime in early October.
New Zealanders, though, shouldn’t get too excited just yet. TechDay doesn’t have much of a track record with respect to Apple rumors and if we look back at previous iPhone launches, we see that the iPhone typically lands in New Zealand a few weeks after it debuts in the US.
The iPhone 4, for example, landed on New Zealand shores on July 30, 2010 after having first been introduced in the US one month earlier on June 24.
