What you’re looking at here isn’t a modern day incarnation of the conch from Lord of the Flies, but rather a thoughtfully designed and clever iPhone speaker that doesn’t require cords, batteries, or really anything at all.
Called the MegaPhone, the device is a ceramic horn handmade in Italy and was developed by en&is.
The form is designed to amplify and optimize the best sound output. The amplifier is based on a thin wooden structure that allows the object to float off the table. This is to increase the vibration of the object being used and to optimize the emission of sound. Designed for the iPhone is perfect for listening to music without headphones, for audio conference to hear the person on the phone as if he were talking in the same room.
I couldn’t find how much this baby costs as it doesn’t appear to be on the market just yet, but there’s a Facebook fan page for the device if you wanna keep tabs on its availability.
Check out video of the device in action below.
And as cool as this idea is, it’s not the first time we’ve seen something like this.
Check out this iPhone horn stand from Vat19 which claims to double an iPhone’s volume with no batteries and provide a 13 decibel sound boost.
Yep, the proof truly is “in the Poison.”
