With a number of outlets speculating that the next-gen iPhone will feature the same form factor as the iPhone 4, the oft-reliable Jonathan Geller from BGR wrote earlier today that we might want to forget everything we’ve heard thus far about the next iteration of the iPhone.
Okay, that’s admittedly a bit melodramatic, but Geller did drop some intriguing nuggets of information that are worthy passing on. Chief among them is word that the iPhone 5 will come with a “radical new case design.” Indeed, rumors of a new iPhone form factor have persisted for months, though lately the consensus has seemingly drifted towards a new iPhone sporting the same form factor as the iPhone 4, albeit with an upgraded camera and iOS 5. It’s also worth pointing out that we’ve seen reports that the iPhone 5 will come with a contoured screen, similar to the Google Nexus S manufactured by Samsung. Could this, in fact, be the radical new case design Geller’s source is alluding to?
Further, Geller’s source relays that Apple may not only be planning a special iPhone event for this August but may bump up the iPhone 5 release date to late-August as well. Previously, it was widely believed that Apple’s next-gen iPhone launch was poised to take place sometime in late September.
Geller and BGR certainly break their fair share of stories, but given Apple’s notoriously secretive nature, no one can be sure of anything until Steve Jobs himself trots out on stage and pulls off the big reveal – unless, of course, you just so happen to find an iPhone 5 prototype camping out on a bar room floor.
Hey folks, it happens!
