Well, it appears that those reports about Apple banning Best Buy from selling the iPad 2 were completely off base. Indeed, iPad shortages at Best Buy at the time were subsequently explained away with talk of an upcoming iPad 2 promotion at the nationwide electronics retailer.
Now, a week or so later comes a leaked corporate memo, presumably from Best Buy, which outlines details for an upcoming nationwide iPad 2 promotion. The memo relays that the store will resume taking reserve orders for the iPad 2 this Sunday. A photo of the memo can be seen below, courtesy of Engadget.
The iPad has of course been selling monster numbers since first hitting the streets a few weeks ago. For some time after launch, extremely long lines outside of Apple stores were common as folks clamored to get their hands on the all elusive and quick to sell out iPad 2. Since then, Apple has slowly but surely managed to balance its supply and demand issues, which may have been impacted by yesterday’s news that Apple’s supplier of audio chips, Cirrus Logic, experienced manufacturing problems a few weeks ago which affected chip yields. The problem, though, has since been rectified.
