A brief report from Reuters notes that Apple is interested in developing a TD-LTE capable iPhone.
China Mobile, the world’s largest mobile carrier by subscribers, said on Friday that Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs has expressed interest in developing an iPhone based on the Chinese carrier’s network standard.
China Mobile is developing its next-generation TD-LTE mobile network technology and there have been talks over a possible iPhone tie-up with the carrier.
As a quick primer, LTE stands for Long Term Evolution and is the driving technology behind 4G. The TD stands for Time Division and is what China Mobile’s network is built on. And with the most subscribers out of any carrier in the world, it only makes sense for Apple to at least explore developing a TD-LTE equipped iPhone.
