Verizon carrying the iPhone isn’t just about giving its users more options, but about stealing away valuable smartphone customers from AT&T. To that end, Verizon, upon announcing the arrival of the iPhone, also announced that customers would be eligible for a $29.95 unlimited data plan. AT&T, in contrast, had since done away with unlimited plans and moved to a tiered payment structure.
Bloomberg is now reporting that Verizon’s unlimited data plan gambit was just a temporary measure and that the company will bring it to an end this Summer and switch to a tiered plan like AT&T. Like AT&T, Verizon will grandfather in those with unlimited plans should they choose to keep it.
