Apple today released a iOS 4.2.6 firmware update for the Verizon iPhone ahead of the February 10 launch of the long-awaited CDMA iPhone. Previously, the iOS build found on the Verizon iPhone that was demoed at Verizon’s media event not too long ago ran iOS 4.2.5. The new firmware checks in at 642 MB, carries build number 8E200, and is available as a direct download here.

Rumor has it that Apple posted the updated iOS online because it recently sent out early review units of the Verizon iPhone to favored reviewers (i.e Walt Mossberg, David Pogue etc.)
