Edible Apple

Every year, eBay releases a Top Shopped report which gives us a glimpse into some of the more popular trends of the past year. In 2010, Apple reigned supreme as the iPhone was the item with the most related items sold (1,634,674) while the iPad occupied the fifth slot with 621,399 related items sold. Notably, no Apple item made eBay’s list in 2009.

One explanation behind the surge in Apple popularity on eBay is of course the tremendous sales growth of Apple products over the past year. But another important factor is the simple fact that Apple’s brand new products (i.e the iPhone and iPad) are at first only available in a few select countries. Over a period of months, Apple of course opens up distribution to a slew of other locations, but in the interim, the market for Apple goods where they otherwise aren’t available via retail is huge.

In any event, eBay’s entire list of America’s “top shopped” items of 2010 reads:
