Remember when the Palm Pre was supposed to give the iPhone a run for it’s money? Yeah, funny how certain things in tech seem to fizzle out after an overwhelming amount of hype. Since it’s release, the Pre has seen somewhat stagnant stales, and the most noteworthy aspect about the device is arguably the back and forth Palm and Apple engaged in over iTunes syncing. Of course, there’s also that little tidbit regarding HP buying out Palm. Just a small little detail, really.
Well now that Palm is firmly under the umbrella of HP, the Palm Pre 2 is ready to roll. And though the Pre 2 still lacks a US launch date, the device is about to go on sale in Europe. If you happen to be in the UK, however, don’t expect to find them at any stores belonging to any of the major UK cell operators.
Pocket-lint recently spoke to all of the major UK mobile carriers and were surprised to find that none were planning on stocking the new phone from HP. Even Vodafone, whose sister company is selling the Pre 2 in France, isn’t having anything to do with the Pre 2.
Meanwhile, O2 had this to say about the Palm Pre 2.
The Palm Pre Two will not be available on O2. We offer a range of the best handsets through our product portfolio and regularly review this to ensure it continues to meet the demands of our customers. We’ve always offered our customers a choice of experiences when they come to buy a new phone and we were excited to add webOS and the Palm Pre to our range. We’re still fans of webOS – the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus are available from us today – but won’t be taking the Palm Pre Two.
That doesn’t very promising for HP.
