When the iPhone 4 first came out, reports of antenna/reception problems began to mount and the bad press began to spin out of control. In a largely successful attempt to quell a narrative it could no longer control, Steve Jobs took the stage in mid-July and announced that Apple was going to give away free iPhone Bumpers to all iPhone 4 owners.
“We’re not perfect,” Jobs explained, ”phones are not perfect. We all know that. But we want to make our users happy.”
The free iPhone 4 Bumper program was in effect up until September 30, and now that we’re in the early days of October, iPhone 4 Bumpers are now re-appearing online and in Apple retail stores after being temporarily removed while the free case giveaway program was in effect.
The Bumpers come in 6 different colors (Orange, Pink, White, Black, Green, and Blue) and each one will set you back $29. If you purchase one from Apple’s online store, it’ll ship to you within 24 hours.
Oddly enough, and pointed out by TUAW, it’s somewhat comical that all the iPhone 4 Bumpers are advertised with white iPhone 4’s, which, you know, haven’t seen the light of day outside of Apple’s campus.
