Beet.tv recently asked Verizon spokesman John Johnson about the prospects of the iPhone hitting Verizon. As expected, Johnson dismissed the question before moving on to discuss “exciting” Android devices.
Q: Let me ask you first of all about Verizon and the iPhone. What is happening, if anything? What is the status?
A: No one ever asks that question. So, no plans to carry the iPhone in the immediate future, but you’ve gotta look at the incredible excitement around the Android devices…
To be fair, there’s not too much to take away from this. Even if the iPhone was hitting Verizon tomorrow, Johnson wouldn’t let on about it. Still, with Jobs taking the stage at WWDC in just a few days, folks are still waiting with baited breath for an iPhone/Verizon announcement.
Over the past few weeks, there have been some speculative claims reports that Verizon is upgrading its network to support concurrent voice and data connections in anticipation of an iPhone launch sometime this fall. Meanwhile, some analysts are predicting that the iPhone will hit Verizon by November, while others see a 2011 launch as more likely.
As a final point of interest, Johnson noted that Verizon will roll out its high-speed 4G network in 25-30 US markets over the next 6 months.
