Sony recently announced that beginning in 2011, they will stop selling 3.5-inch floppy disks in Japan, an area where Sony enjoys a 70% marketshare with sales of 12 million disks in 2009.
Wow, so many thoughts come to mind it’s hard to know where to begin. First, they still manufacture these things? Second, there are enough companies who make 3.5 inch floppy’s that there’s an actual floppy disk market? Unbelievable!
I haven’t seen one of these babies in ages, and to think, Apple was criticized for selling the original iMac sans a floppy disk drive.

Industry uses them. Most CNC machines use floppies to load run files. Many medical appliances use them. Plenty of oscilloscopes use them still. etc.
The consumer market is no the only market.

I still use them. They are cheap and handy.
