I can still remember the first time I ever played the videogame Street Fighter. Well, I can’t exactly remember the year (I think it was 91/92) but I do remember where I was – at the now defunct Boblo Island Amusement Park. Anyways, I sauntered into the arcade area after some water slide action and was immediately drawn to this fighting game featuring characters with tattered clothing. I gently popped in a quarter and was asked to choose my character. After a quickly surveying the available options, I decided on Ryu. I liked the name, I liked his understated but symbolic outfit, and I just generally liked what he seemed to bring to the table.
Over the next few minutes, I lost to Ken a number of times while losing a number of precious quarters in the process as well. But I was hooked. Street Fighter was it. Over the next few years, I don’t know how much money and how much time I wasted playing that damned game, but those were some damn good times. I haven’t yet given Street Fighter IV on the iPhone a spin, but mostly because I’m apprehensive about spending $9.99 on an iPhone game after GTA: Chinatown Wars disappointed me so.
Still, when I came across this meshing of Street Fighter with a MacBook Pro, I just had to post it. So here ya go. And a warm Hadouken to all!
