Earlier this week, Apple accepted the supposedly super fast Opera Mini web browser into the iTunes App Store, and thus far users are downloading it with reckless abandon. In the first day of availability alone, the was downloaded over 1 million times, and it reigns supreme on the iTunes App Store (for free apps) across a multitude of countries. 22 to be exact.
Opera writes:
“Today iPhone users have a choice, and, as the numbers show, they are eager to explore new and faster ways to surf the Web on the iPhone – especially during heavy Web traffic,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “With any widely available and frequently downloaded Opera product, we are appreciative of all the feedback we are getting, as it helps us to continually improve our product and better meet the needs of our users.”
Nevertheless, early reviews of the Opera Mini browser have been pretty atrocious. As they say in marketing, though, you don’t sell the steak, you sell the sizzle.
