Advertising firm Chitika has purportedly set up a system to crudely gauge how many iPads Apple has sold to date. At the time of this writing, Chitika estimates that Apple has sold 529,083 iPads. Apple of course announced that on Saturday alone it sold 300,000 units, so the half a million figure isn’t all that unreasonable.
Chitika makes its calculations by counting how many new iPads it sees coming through on its network, and then multiplying that “by how much of the Internet we see at any given time” and ultimately coming up with a guesstimate.
