9to5Mac reports that Apple is ramping up the list of available positions for its new and massive data center in North Carolina. Some of the new positions Apple is seeking include a Data Center Mechanical Technician, a Data Center Electrical Technician, a Data Center Site Coordinator, and a Data Center Site Services Manager.

Apple’s Data Center in NC measures in at 500,000 square feet and easily makes it one of the largest data centers in the world. To put things into context, one of Apple’s current data centers in California is about 100,000 square feet.

All told, Apple is planning to invest over one billion dollars into the data center, a figure which far exceeds the $500 million amount typically spent by companies like Google and Microsoft who happen run massive data centers of their own.

It’s not entirely clear what plans Apple has in store for the North Carolina data center, but it’s widely believed that it will have something to do with cloud computing and establishing a robust infrastructure more capable of handling the bandwidth required by Apple’s iTunes Store and potential cloud computing initiatives in the future.
