App developers certainly don’t lack an imagination when it comes to putting up gimmicky and utterly pointless apps up on iTunes. Case in point – an app called Pocket Heat which touts itself as being able to turn your iPhone or iPod Touch into a portable heater by running the CPU at maximum capacity. The description goes on to read, “This app creates a quick blast of heat wherever you need it; waiting for a train, a chilly restaurant, or a cold apartment. Fire up this app to stay toasty warm!”
I can just see it now – a group of homeless individuals gathered under a highway overpass huddling close together over an iPhone running Pocket Heat.
And just in case your curiosity is running at full throttle (after all, it’s only $0.99), the app has 93 1-star reviews with everyone chiming in that the app generates no additional heat whatsoever and drains the battery like crazy. Shocking.
This isn’t the first time we’ve run into a gimmicky over-promising, can’t deliver iPhone app. Remember this one called “app blower” which claimed to turn your iPhone’s speakers into a makeshift fan?
