Back in June, Apple made the iPhone more affordable than ever when it began selling an 8GB 3G model for only $99. This was a big move for Apple as it opened up the device to an entirely new segment of customers while preventing other smartphones from stealing its thunder via price cutting.
Now, new evidence suggests that Apple will soon begin selling an 8GB version of its faster iPhone 3GS model for, what presume will be, only $99. Electronista reports:
Rumors of an 8GB iPhone 3GS gained credibility late yesterday with a post from a German shopper. After buying a refurbished 8GB iPhone 3G, the Hamburg resident received the promised device but with a label on the back pointing to an “iPhone 3GS v2.2, 8GB.” The model (A1241) and part number (MB490DN/A) point to the older model, but “iPhone 3GS” appears elsewhere on the packaging and implies that its mention wasn’t a mistake.
Currently, the iPhone 3GS is only available in 16GB and 32GB varieties, and at $199 and $299 respectively.
