Ah Psystar, a shady company that gives us much to write about. But sometimes lost in their ongoing legal battle with Apple is the fact that they actually manufacture PC’s running OS X that they then sell to the public at large. With that in mind, it’s only natural to wonder what exactly the Psystar experience is all about and whether their PC performance is up to snuff.
On that note, CNET recently reviewed Psystar’s OpenQ computer, a system with a base price of $699.99 (monitor not included) and which obviously runs the latest version of OS X Snow Leopard. Overall, CNET observes that the OpenQ runs fast, but that it also comes with a less than optimal user experience compared to what you get with Apple hardware. For example, CNET notes the OpenQ comes with “one of the most outdated PC cases we’ve seen in a long while”, and aesthetics aside, they note that there is “no modern connectivity on this PC at all” – meaning that there’s no HDMI ports and not even any Firewire connectivity.
