Engadget writes that a growing number of Time Capsule owners are reporting that their devices are randomly dying.
What’s worse is that the problem being reported doesn’t appear to be related to a firmware or software update, or some other configuration issues, but rather that the Time Capsules “just die” randomly — most after a year or more. Judging from the reports on the official Apple forums, it also seems that folks are having hit and miss results getting Apple to fix or replace their Time Capsule, with some apparently able to get an out-of-warranty replacement and others faced with a $500 bill.
Which is why we her at Edible Apple have always maintained that backing up your data tends to do more harm than good.
Kidding, of course, but if you happen to be one of the unlucky saps with a faulty Time Capsule, you can commiserate with similarly situated folks over here on Apple’s discussion page for the issue.
