Smule has the music apps category on iTunes on lockdown, and things are about to get a whole lot more serious with the release of a new app called “I Am T-Pain”. As you might have guessed, the app lets any ole’ user sing into the iPhone mic and have their voice coming out sounding auto-tuned, a’la T-Pain.
In the video below, T-Pain can be seen introducing the app to a who’s who of peeps in the rap community – Funkmaster Flex, Ludacris, Sean Kingston, and Akon are just some of the folks included.
Users will have the option to sing auto-tune style against a number of popular T-Pain tracks that come bundled with the app, or they can also just sing solo without a “companion track.” After recording some auto-tune goodness, users will then be able to email their latest creation over to friends via email, or publish it directly to Facebook and MySpace.
The app was released today, sells for $2.99 on iTunes, and is only available for iPhone users running iPhone OS 3.0. If the upcoming iPod Touch models come equipped with a microphone, we’d imagine that it’d be able to run this app no problem.
But in any event, check out T-Pain pimping out the app to his friends below.
According to Venture Beat, “T-Pain approached Smule about creating the app — apparently he has been a fan of apps from the Palo Alto, Calif., startup for a while now.” Who knew..
