As if the iPhone doesn’t do enough already, CNET reported today that Apple has obtained the rights to offer ready-made ringtones, and “if managers can get them ready in time to sell”, Apple will make an official announcement at their special media event scheduled for September 9th.
Users have always had the option to create their own ringtones, but if the iPhone is designed to make life easier and indulge us in even more ways to be lazy, I’m afraid the option to create custom-made ringtones doesn’t suffice.
Though profits from ringtones have been on the decline of late, users have shown that they’re more than willing to fork over a few bucks for the latest jingle from artists such as Kanye and Lady GaGa. Hell, some folks even download the theme music from TV shows like LOST and Heroes. There’s no official word yet on how much ringtones for the iPhone will cost, but it’ll probably come in somewhere in the $0.79-$1.29 range, according to CNET.
