Earlier this week, Samsung unveiled a new iPhone grade ARM processor with a clock output of 1Ghz, a marked improvement over the current iPhone 3GS processor which can potentially run at 833Mhz, but which has been scaled back to run at 633Mhz due to heat and power considerations.

Samsung notes that the new Cortex-A8 chip, aptly named Hummingbird, can easily handle up to 2 billion instructions per second while only consuming 640mW of power.

Might we see this upgraded processor in the next iteration of the iPhone?
