You can’t help but notice the design similarities shared between the Newton MessagePad and the iPhone. Below, check out photos of the 2 devices side by side. For each product, simplicity is the design.
As an aside, when discussing what it was like to type on the iPhone before the device actually went on sale, Steve Jobs said that the Apple team never got out of their heads an old and popular comic which poked fun at the then notoriously inaccurate handwriting recognition of the Newton. Jobs noted that Apple had to make typing as accurate as possible right out of the gate to prevent the iPhone from becoming a pop culture laughing stock like the Newton.
