Hot on the heels of Apple hiring former AMD CTO Bob Drebin as a Senior Director comes news that Apple has hired yet another graphics expert and former AMD/ATI CTO to its growing and impressive graphics team.
The Inquirer reports, citing a source “deep inside” Apple, that Raja Koduri, who recently left his position at AMD, will soon be joining Apple.
Between PASemi, Bob Drebin and other things we can’t talk about yet, Apple is building up some serious hardware talent.
Indeed it is. And let’s not forget about Apple’s somewhat controversial hiring of IBM chip guru and processor design expert Mark Papermaster.
It seems that Apple is angling to come out with its own proprietary chips for the iPhone and iPod Touch that simply won’t be able to be matched by any of its competitors products. Any graphics and processing advantages Apple is able to leverage will become increasingly important as the UI differences between smartphones will inevitably shrink as time goes on.
