Ladies and gentleman, I present to you the next level in iPhone app tomfoolery, and depending on your point of view, it’s either exactly what you’ve been waiting for, or a little bit too much.

Chrysler’s electric powered Peapod vehicle might sport an ignition with iPhone integration.  According to a promotional brochure, all you have to do is

simply dock your iPod for a fun, cutting edge way to start up. Exclusive software designed exclusively for Peapod turns your iPod into a key. Both options are interchangeable and secure.

Seems kinda cool, though I’m not sure I’d want to use it on a car of my own.  Besides, how long would it be before enterprising hackers develop an app that could start any car.  Maybe they’d call it iHotwire, and use the slogan. “iHotwire: Putting a modern twist on an old pastime.”
