Reuters is reporting that Apple recently ordered a shipment of 10-inch touchscreen panels from Wintek, the same Taiwanese company that supplies Apple with the panels it uses for the iPhone. This is now the third independent source (this week!) reporting on Apple’s potential plans for manfucaturing a touchscreen netbook or tablet. Earlier this week, reports from the Chinese language paper Commercial Times and the Dow Jones newswire both hinted at netbook plans by Apple, all based on its order of touchscreens.
It should be pointed out, however, that no one actually knows why Apple is ordering 10-inch touchscreens, and any reports of an impending netbook are merely speculative. AppleInsider, for one, doesn’t envision an Apple netbook at all, but rather believes that “the new screens are more likely to turn up in a final version of the company’s much-anticipated Newton/Web tablet, which has been under development for around three years now after facing a number of bumps and hurdles.”
Either way, it appears that Apple has something cooking in the Kitchen.
