Digitimes, citing the Chineese-language Commercial Times, is reporting that Apple already has suppliers lined up for an upcoming touchscreen netbook that will launch sometime in the third quarter of this year.
Rumors of an Apple branded netbook have been making the rounds for some time now, and have especially picked up steam given their growing popularity in these tough economic times. Steve Jobs, though, famously stated that Apple doesn’t know how to build a $500 computer that isn’t a piece of crap. That being the case, if the reports of an Apple netbook are true, it will be interesting to see how Apple prices their netbook, and what features it might have to put it into a different category than what’s currently available. Apple prides itself on manufacturing premium products and a typically bland netbook isn’t something Apple would ever produce.
