Wow. While initial reports pegged the number of Windows 7 versions at 5, Engadget is now reporting that there will be six, count ’em, SIX, versions of the next Windows release. While consumer choice is great, this seems more like consumer confusion.
Windows 7 Starter
Windows 7 Home Basic
Windows 7 Home Premium
Windows 7 Professional
Windows 7 Enterprise
Windows 7 Ultimate

I count six. And this doesn’t take into account the fact there will (probably) be 32- and 64-bit versions of each, so take what you’ve got an double it. Whee?
What’s so hard about offering up ONE version of the OS, Microsoft?

Microsoft just doesn’t get it, do they? One version. Include everything. I mean, you’ve got to be kidding me with this nonsense. Vista was an unnecessary step backwards from XP. Now that consumers have completely turned against it, they are looking for some actual signs of change at Microsoft. But no, we get more of the same utter nonsense.
Something tells me that Windows 7 won’t be better than XP either. Way to drive me to a Macbook, MS. Great job!

Well, before you dismiss W7 you should at least try the beta. I have, and it runs quite well even on my old, dilapidated MacBook. I’ve got the original 1.83ghz Core Duo with the craptastic Intel GMA chipset and I had the full Aero UI with glass and all the effects. It ran MUCH better on this hardware than Vista ever did.
But yeah, I’d still choose a Mac over Windows 7. 🙂
